Program Description

This option prepares students to transfer to a baccalaureate psychology program. The coursework is designed to foster an appreciation and understanding of (1) the scientific study, (2) measurement, and (3) perspectives and concepts (both historical and contemporary) of behaviors and mental processes fundamental to psychology. Program graduates will learn fundamental knowledge concerning psychological processes and research methods for investigating basic and applied problems in psychology. Students will apply relevant research to analyze and evaluate psychological perspectives and concepts.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

- Understand the historical antecedents, essential elements, milestone, and perspectives of Psychology as a scientific discipline,
- Understand the basic structure and physiology of the nervous and endocrine systems in application to psychological concepts.
- Analyze the basic physical, cognitive, social, and emotional aspects of human development.
- Apply the scientific study and measurement of psychology and its concepts using statistical analyses.
- Apply contemporary psychological perspectives and current research in the analysis of emerging and controversial topics in psychology.

Mission statement:
Prepare students for transfer to a baccalaureate degree in psychology and or a closely related discipline by providing a foundation in scientific literacy/reasoning skills needed to understand and examine fundamental concepts and perspectives in psychology.

Requirements

General Education: 47 Credits

As described in the General Education section of the catalog. The following General Education courses are required for this program:

Career Studies: 10 Credits as Follows:

  • course - Introduction to Psychology I: Physical & Sensory Aspects Credits: 3

  • course - Quantitative Methods in Psychology Credits: 4

  • course - Human Growth Development I or course - Human Growth and Development II or course - Adolescent Psychology or course - Life Span Development Credits: 3

Career Studies: 3 Credits From the Following

  • course - Industrial/Organizational Psychology Credits: 3

  • course - Theories of Personality Credits: 3

  • course - Abnormal Psychology Credits: 3

  • course - Educational Psychology Credits: 3

  • course - Positive Psychology Credits: 3 *

Total Credits Required for Degree: 60

Notes:

(1) Students are required to complete 0-4 credits in Technological Competency. A student may be waived from the Technological Competency requirements by passing a proficiency exam or by taking comparable coursework within other portions of his or her studies. Such courses will de designated in the catalog by a (t).

Bachelor's Degree Through Brookdale
