General Education Course (Humanities, Cultural & Global Awareness)

Course Description

The student will read and respond to selected plays, novels, short stories, and essays of world literature from the 18th Century to the present. The works' relevance for contemporary readers will be examined. This broad based exploration of the modern world, as seen through its literary art, exposes students to a wide variety of cultures, religions, histories and regions. Those regions include works from Africa, the Middle East, China, Japan, India, Central Asia, the Americas and Europe. (Prerequisites: ENGL-095, ENGL-097 or satisfactory completion of the College's foundational studies requirement in writing, READ-092, READ-095 or satisfactory completion of the College's foundational studies requirement in reading)
