Program Description

The English Option is designed for transfer to a four-year college. With a focus on writing, communication, critical thinking, and independent research, four-year English graduates enter widely diverse professions and industries, among which may include teaching, law, tech, management, business, library and information sciences, marketing, copywriting, editing, and publishing. Students in this option explore both traditional and current forms of literature and digital texts, coupled with liberal arts studies.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

- Think and write critically about characteristics of traditional and non-traditional literary genres and forms, including digital media, within a cultural framework.
- Cultivate rhetorical skills to generate engaging discussion, interaction, commentary and evaluation of literary, cultural, and digital texts.
- Develop and employ vocabulary and methods of the major critical approaches to literature through written and oral communication.
- Conduct academic research and produce clear and effective written artifacts, including persuasive and analytical essays.
