Requirements

General Education: 20-21 Credits

The following General Education courses are required:

  • course - English Composition: The Writing Process Credits: 3

  • course - Statistics Credits: 4 or course - Mathematics for the Liberal Arts Credits: 3 *

  • course - Public Speaking Credits: 3

  • course - Introduction to Psychology I: Physical & Sensory Aspects Credits: 3

  • Humanities Credits: 3

    • Students are required to select at least one of the following Humanities courses:

      • course - Art Appreciation Credits: 3

      • course - History of Classical Music Credits: 3

      • course - Theater Appreciation Credits: 3

  • General Education- Any General Education course(s) Credits: 4-6

  • course - Foundations of Early Childhood Education (1) or course - Introduction to Education Credits: 3

  • course - Introduction to the Exceptional Child Credits: 3

  • course - Literacy Development and Instruction Credits: 3

  • course - Special Project - Early Childhood Education (1) or course - Special Project - Education Credits: 3

  • course - Early Childhood Internship (1) or course - Education Internship Credits: 3

Notes:

(1) Students interested in early childhood should select EDEC courses

(2) Field experience is recommended. Students who have completed EDEC105 or EDUC105, with a grade of "B" or better, are required to complete 60 hours of observation in an approved academic setting to ensure transferability of EDEC105 or EDUC105 to a four-year institution. EDEC199/EDUC199 is required for licensing and acceptance into university Education programs. The Education Department of Brookdale highly recommends that the field experience be taken while at Brookdale for students wishing to transfer into Teacher Education programs at the university level and for Teaching licensing requirements.
