Program Description

This program is designed for students who wish to enter the field of education in a support role of Instructional Assistant. Coursework completes classroom management training and program support concepts for employment opportunities in the New Jersey public or private school systems.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

- Demonstrate an understanding of the scope and importance of classroom management
- Recognize the importance of specific measurable goals and its relationship to lesson planning
- Understand the relationships shared by the teacher assistant and the various school team members
- Examine the integration of the literacy skills as part of the curriculum and school success
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal, and professional skills

(1) Students interested in early childhood should select EDEC courses

(2) Field experience is recommended. Students who have completed EDEC105 or EDUC105, with a grade of "B" or better, are required to complete 60 hours of observation in an approved academic setting to ensure transferability of EDEC105 or EDUC105 to a four-year institution. EDEC199/EDUC199 is required for licensing and acceptance into university Education programs. The Education Department of Brookdale highly recommends that the field experience be taken while at Brookdale for students wishing to transfer into Teacher Education programs at the university level and for Teaching licensing requirements.
