Foundations of Early Childhood Education

Course Description

Students will identify the emergent processes of early childhood development as they apply to learning and teaching in early childhood education programs. An emphasis on theoretical perspectives specifically related to early childhood development, developmentally appropriate delivery models and practices, and historical movements that guide teaching and learning in early childhood education settings will be identified as they impact the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of young children. An understanding of the nature of early childhood education services and programs for young children with special needs will be demonstrated. Developmentally appropriate assessment processes and observation tools will be studied and applied in field based early childhood settings. Field experience is required in this course.
