Students with Disabilities in Inclusive and Special Education

Course Description

This course is designed to meet the needs of individuals pursuing a career in both special education and general education fields and will address the continuum of special services from early childhood through 12th grade. Students will analyze the implications, and the characteristics of disabilities identified under the Individuals with Disabilities Act. In this course, students will examine inclusive and specialized educational programs which incorporate evidence-based strategies and accommodations designed to meet the needs of children with disabilities. Through onsite visitations students will gain an appreciation for and evaluate local special services, programs, and special education professionals as field observation experiences. In alignment with the NJ Professional Standards for Teachers, students will complete the course with a solid foundational understanding of the unique needs of exceptional children, thereby enhancing the preservice teacher?s ability to support student educational and social growth.
