Program Description

Students in this option should take music and music theory courses, coupled with the liberal arts studies necessary for transfer to a four-year college.

Graduates of this program will be able to:


Graduates of this program will be able to sight-read music of medium-to-advanced difficulty on their chosen instrument (voice, piano, or guitar) in a jury setting with the Music Department Chair. Graduates will also be able to demonstrate a knowledge of significant musical styles.

Requirements

General Education: 45-48 Credits

As described in the General Education section of the catalog and as identified below:

Career Studies: 12 Credits

  • 6-9 credits as follows:

    • course - Fundamentals of Music. A placement test is offered. If a student passes the placement test, they may progress to course - Group Piano 1

    • course - Group Piano 1. A placement test is offered. If a student passes the placement test, they may progress to the following courses below to satisfy the 12-credit Career Studies requirements.

  • 3-6 credits from among the following:

    • course - Music Theory/Songwriting II Credits: 3

    • Piano

      • course - Group Piano II Credits: 3

      • course - Group Piano III Credits: 3

    • Voice

      • course - Voice I Credits: 3

      • course - Voice II Credits: 3

      • course - Voice III Credits: 3

      • course - Voice IV Credits: 3

        • Note: Group Voice 2-4 require participation in the Brookdale Concordia Chorale.

    • Guitar/Instrumental

      • course - Group Guitar I Credits: 3

      • course - Group Guitar II Credits: 3

Electives: 0-3 Credits

  • course - Music Theory/Songwriting I Credits: 3

  • course - Ear Training Credits: 3 **

The following sequence is an example of how this degree can be completed in two years.
