Introduction to Human Services

Course Description

Students will trace the history of human services. They will also examine the evolution of systems designed to deliver human services. The modern concepts behind the human service movement will be studied along with investigations into a variety of a) human services available to a community, b) agencies that offer human services and c) client populations. Students will spend 20 hours in a volunteer capacity at a fieldwork site dedicated to the human services. They will also participate in a personal growth group for the purpose of clarifying their professional values and ethics, as well as their career goals.
