Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Perform comprehensive health assessments on individuals to provide holistic patient centered care.

Integrate concepts of patient-centered care, basic therapeutic communication, safety, homeostasis, comfort-rest, and immobility in the nursing process.

Demonstrate accountability for safe nursing practice, utilizing basic legal/ethical principles to guide critical thinking, clinical reasoning and decision making that apply to patient care.

Utilize an understanding of the physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual influences on communications between the nurse and the patient to develop a therapeutic relationship.

Define the role and responsibilities of the nurse as patient advocate, assisting patient in navigating through the health care system.

Plan, organize and deliver patient care within scope of practice, as a member of the health care team utilizing appropriate verbal, written and electronic documentation of care.

Describe the concept of evidence-based practice (EBP), including the components of information literacy, by incorporating the National Patient Safety Goals into practice to promote safety and effective nursing care.
