Discrete Mathematics

Course Description

This course is intended for students of mathematics or computer science. The course examines the theoretical and applied mathematical foundations for the discipline of computer science. Topics include sets, logic, methods of proof, functions, number theory, counting techniques, discrete probability, graphs and trees, relations, and Boolean functions. Mathematical reasoning and proofs will be stressed. Applications are drawn from the field of computer science. A prior programming course, while recommended, is not necessary. NOTE: This course is offered only in the Summer II term. (Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or higher in MATH-172)
