Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
Outcome
Understand the physical (the body) and psychological (the mind) impact of lighting in the build environment.
Outcome
Understand lighting fundamentals: 3 levels of light, lamps and luminaires, color temperature, CRI, lumens, vision process, reflectance values, daylighting, controls, electricity, and photometry.
Outcome
Research the requirements, analyze the space and present a successful lighting design concept for a given interior space.
Outcome
Distinguish fixture specifications and appropriate applications through the use of the industry- standard lighting handbook.
Outcome
Calculate various lighting formulas to determine possible lighting design solutions.
Outcome
Observe, review, and evaluate existing lighting designs based on lamps, lumens, CRI, kelvin temperatures, reflectance values, and effects of daylighting. Students will create an observation notebook complete with sketches of their observations.
