Film Studies With Film and Tv Production
Course Description
This module is designed to introduce students to the practical, analytical and theoretical analysis of film. The first half emphasizes the practical side of film studies, with particular attention paid to shot analysis, the acquisition of a pertinent critical vocabulary, and methods by which cinematic sequences can be analyzed. As well as studying the components of the medium and\ considering some of the ways in which these can be arranged in film narrative, students will also make critical assessments of technical and sylistic variations in selected film contexts and through comparisons between films. In the second half of the module, students are introduced to the various forms film critcism may take, but most significantly to traditional academic and popular media (magazine, television, Internet and radio) approaches to film.
