Switchgears, Transformers and Controls

Outcome

Low and High Voltage Circuit Breakers and Switchgear: To develop the student's knowledge of circuit breakers and switchgear the student will know how circuit breakers extinguish an arc and how protective systems work in conjunction with the breakers.

Outcome

Low and High Voltage Circuit Breakers and Switchgear: The student should be able to assist an experienced electrician in performing routine maintenance on both air circuit breakers and oil circuit breakers, and also perform certain electrical tests on the breakers.

Outcome

Transformers: To develop a basic understanding of transformer theory and transformer connection schemes, the student should be familiar with the common types of transformers, including dry and wet-type distribution transformers, power transformers, and instrument transformers.

Outcome

Transformers: The student should be able to describe various transformer test procedures and explain the necessary safety precautions for each type of test.

Outcome

Controls and Electric Wiring: The student will develop an understanding of control ladder logic; an ability to read wiring drawings; a knowledge of control input and output devices and their operation, and an ability to perform wiring in the lab.

Outcome

Controls and Electric Wiring: The student should be able to recognize the parts of a standard on-off control system; be able to assist an experienced electrician to wire and troubleshoot control circuits, and be qualified to interpret basic control drawings
