The Science of Math Literacy and Conceptual Development
Course Description
This course prepares students for mathematics literacy skills and conceptual development as foundational mathematics teacher dispositions. It is tailored for individuals aspiring to become teachers or as instructional assistants for the PreK through 3rd grade and for the K-5 elementary education setting. The course builds positive mathematics dispositions applied to the science of mathematics literacies and conceptual development. General mathematics literacies and learning principles include number concepts, subitizing, and problem-based approaches for mathematics instruction. Emphasis is placed on research-based, developmentally appropriate teaching practices that support effective learning trajectories in mathematics.
