Program Description

This Option is designed for students interested in civic engagement, social justice and advocacy scholarship that centers gender and women's issues, concerns and experiences across disciplines and in a global context. Women's and Gender Studies courses consider how ideas and practices about gender and sexuality shape identities, institutions, nations, and global exchanges. Women's roles in - and contributions to - history, literature, culture and the social sciences will also be examined. Students choosing this Option may transfer to a four-year college where Women's and/or Gender Studies is offered as a major or minor or paired with another discipline such as Political Science, Education, Literature, History, Psychology or Sociology. Knowledge of Women's and Gender Studies is an asset for students choosing careers in the non-profit sector, teaching, research, counseling, social work, human services and other areas.
