Interior Design, A.A.S.

This program provides intensive, job-focused education in order to prepare students for entry-level positions in the field of Interior Design. Career studies courses will provide training in the following categories: manual and computer-aided drafting skills, two- and three-dimensional visualization skills, space planning, universal design concepts, sustainability, lighting and building systems, codes, historical developments in the built environment, ethics, trade information, business practices and portfolio development.  The AAS degree prepares graduates with the educational foundation and fundamentals required for pursuing professional certification.

Graduates of this program will be able to:


  • Compare and contrast the implications of the historical development of architecture, furniture, and interiors
  • Apply elements and principles of design
  • Create interior design drawings using both manual and computer-aided drafting techniques and documents necessary for the completion of a design project
  • Select appropriate interior finishes and furnishings based on performance criteria and applicable codes and standards
  • Apply appropriate codes, regulations, and standards that pertain to interior environments

(1) MATH 131 is required for transfer to Kean University.

Total credits required for degree: 60


Notes:


PLEASE NOTE: Students wishing to sit for the NCIDQ exam will need a total of 60 credits in career studies in addition to their work experience. Successful completion of the NCIDQ exam is required for interior design certification in the State of New Jersey.
