Liberal Education Option, Humanities, A.A.

This option is designed for the student who is planning to transfer to a four-year institution and for the student who desires two years of collegiate liberal education. There is considerable freedom in course selection. Aptitude and interest testing is available from a counselor to help the student make a career choice.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively in both speech and writing
  • Analyze works in the fields of art, music, or theater; literature; philosophy and/or religious studies; and/or gain competence in the use of a foreign language
  • Recognize the importance of a global perspective and culturally diverse people
  • Examine ethical issues and situations


General Education - 45-48 credits

As described in General Education .

Career Studies - 12 credits

From selected courses in Art, Graphic Design, Communications Media, Dance, English, Journalism, Languages, Music, Speech and Theater.

Elective - 0-3 credits

Total credits required for degree: 60

Suggested Sequence - Humanities Program A.A. Degree Liberal Education Option

The following sequence is an example of how this degree can be completed in two years. This sequence is based on completion of all Foundational Studies requirements and prerequisites and presumes a Fall Term start date. An individual’s program may vary depending on transfer institution, career objectives, or individual needs. See a counselor for other options and to monitor your progress.

Semester 1 - Fall Term

Total credits: 14-17

Semester 2 - Spring Term

Total credits: 15-16

Semester 3 - Fall Term

Total credits: 16

Semester 4 - Spring Term

Total credits: 12-15

Sequence Notes:

(1) A minimum of 12 credits is required from the Mathematics , Sciences  or Technological Competency  knowledge areas.

Bachelor’s Degree Through Brookdale

This is a preferred Associate degree for students planning to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal and Labor Studies.  For information see University Partnerships.
