Legal and Social Justice Academic Credit Certificate of Achievement


This program presents an interdisciplinary examination of institutions, policies, society, and culture through a theoretical lens focusing on issues of culture, justice, and democracy.  The primary aim of this program is to introduce students to the foundational theories of justice by critically exploring how conceptions of justice have developed to influence society, politics, the law, and the criminal justice system.  Students will be challenged to develop a general knowledge of the many topics and questions found in the issues of legal and social justice.

Graduates of this program will be able to:


  • Identify and describe theories and practices of the American justice system.
  • Analyze the role of American judicial systems as pertains to criminal justice and social constructs.
  • Link the underpinning theories with practices in the American justice system.
  • Explain how applications of the legal system contribute to the attitudes and values of contemporary society.
  • evaluate how a social configuration characterized by cultural diversity affects access and interactions with the justice system.
