Students enrolled in the previous Nursing AAS program curriculum which was in effect prior to 2017-2018 must complete their program by Spring 2019. The previous Nursing AAS program curriculum can be accessed here: Nursing AAS program prior to 2017-2017. The schedule phase out is:

This program prepares the student for entry-level nursing positions in hospitals or comparable facilities. Clinical learning experiences are required for some courses. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensing Exam for Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). Successful completion of this examination results in licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Graduates of this program will be able to:

Use clinical reasoning to provide holistic patient-centered care to individuals, families and groups.
Assume accountability for own behavior and nursing practice based upon legal and ethical principles, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards.
Manage patient care through effective communication and interdisciplinary collaboration within systems-based practice.
Use information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues, fostering mutual respect and share decision making, to enhance patient satisfaction and health outcomes.
Function effectively within nursing and interdisciplinary teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, shared decision making, and collaboration.
Minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve the quality and safety of patient care.
Utilize the best current evidence coupled with clinical expertise and consideration of patients’ preferences, experience and values to make practice decisions.
