Technical Education, A.A.S.

This program is designed for career and technical education alternate route teachers in the Career and Technical Education Teacher Preparation Program (CTETPP) seeking to earn college credit for the CTETPP curriculum and apply the credit toward completion of an Associate’s degree. CTETPP curriculum prepares individuals for continuous employment as teachers in New Jersey’s career and technical education programs.  CTETPP students with prior technical work experience and apprenticeship may be granted up to 13 college credits from training programs approved by the American Council on Education, or other agencies that convert training to college credit and apply those credits toward this degree.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  • Develop and present effective lesson plans for achievement of specific, measurable outcomes
  • Develop necessary skills to assess student learning
  • Organize and manage a culture for learning in a classroom environment which focuses on classroom procedures and student behavior
  • Develop and utilize instructional and learning strategies that meet the needs of diversified learners with focus on cultural, learning and ability differences
  • Communicate an understanding of professional responsibilities
  • Make decisions on integration of the literacy skills as part of the curriculum and its importance in successful transition to career success
  • Demonstrate effective team/interpersonal skills



General Education - 20-22 credits:

As described in the General Education  section of the catalog and as identified below:

Technical Core - A maximum of 13 credits.

From the following:

  • Apprenticeship training
  • Military training
  • Trade/Proprietary education

If a student does not have 13 technical credits, the remaining credits can be elective credits approved by the assigned counselor or can be completed through three additional credits in the internship program.

Career Studies - 15 credits as follows:

Electives - 1-3 credits

Total credits required for degree: 60

Suggested Sequence - Technical Education A.A.S.

Students must complete the 12 credit stage I and II curriculum components and EDUC 299 during the first year.  Additional career studies and General Education courses may be taken during the first year or in subsequent semesters.  The following sequence is an example of how this degree can be completed in two years.  The sequence is based on satisfaction of all Foundational Studies requirements and prerequisites and presumes a Fall Term start date.  An individual’s program may vary depending on transfer institution, career objectives, or individual needs.  See a counselor for other options and to monitor your progress.
