Criminal Justice Option, Social Sciences, A.A.

This option is designed specifically for students seeking to transfer to Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences in New Brunswick.  The required coursework in this new AA option will transfer seamlessly to Rutgers.  Students seeking to complete a degree in criminal justice and transfer to four year institutions other than Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences should select the Criminal Justice A.S. program.

Graduates of this program will be able to:


  • Analyze the constitutional rights and court decisions most important to the criminal justice system
  • Analyze the structure of the New Jersey and the United States court systems
  • Critique the important decision points in the criminal justice process
  • Construct their own personal views on controversial issues raised about the American justice system
  • Examine the issues of professional responsibility and ethical standards in the criminal justice system
  • Identify occupational opportunities in the three sub-systems of the criminal justice system

Requirements:


General Education 45-48 credits:


As described in the  General Education  section of the catalog and as identified below:

3 credtis from the Cultural and Global Awareness (CG) knowledge area is required. Students may not use the CG course to fulfill requirements for another General Education category.

Career Studies - 12 credits as follows:


Career Studies - 6 credits from among the following:


Elective: 0-3 credits


Total credits required for degree: 60

Suggested Sequence - Social Sciences Program A.A., Criminal Justice Option


The following sequence is an example of how this degree can be completed in two years. This sequence is based on satisfaction of all Foundational Studies requirements and prerequisites and presumes a Fall Term start date.  An individual’s program may vary depending on transfer institution, career objectives, or individual needs.  See a counselor for other options and to monitor your progress.

Semester 1 - Fall Term


Total credits: 15-17


Semester 2 - Spring Term


Total credits: 15-16


Semester 3 - Fall Term


Total credits: 16-17


Semester 4 - Spring Term


Total credits: 12-16


Note:


(1) A minimum of 12 credits is required from the Mathematics, Science or Technological Competency knowledge areas.
