Technical Studies, A.A.S.

This career program is designed to allow students with prior work experience and apprenticeship training to earn an Associate’s degree and pursue a business career related to their technical expertise. Students may be granted up to 30 college credits for approved apprenticeship programs approved by the American Council on Education (ACE), or military training.

Graduates of this program will be able to:


  • Communicate effectively in both team and interpersonal settings
  • Employ critical thinking to solve technical problems
  • Apply theory and hands-on practice to a specific technical studies trade
  • Interpret and communicate technical concepts orally, in written form, and electronically

Requirements


General Education - 21 credits as follows:


As described in the General Education  section of the catalog and as identified below:

Technical Core - A maximum of 30 credits*


Technical credits granted for training programs approved by the American Council on Education from an approved apprenticeship program or military training.

*The College allows a student to transfer a maximum number of credits including technical credits, general education, and career studies courses into a program.  See an advisor if your are seeking to transfer in more than 30 credits.  If a student does not have 30 technical credits, the remaining credits can be elective credits approved by a counselor or can be completed through the apprenticeship program.

Career Studies - 3 credits:


Career Studies - 6 credits from among the following:


 A grade of “C” or higher must be earned in all career studies courses in order to complete this program.

Total credits required for degree: 60

The following sequence is an example of how this degree can be completed for apprenticeship students taking one course per term. This sequence is based on satisfaction of all Foundational Studies requirements and prerequisites and presumes a Fall Term start date. An individual’s program may vary depending on transfer institution, career objectives, or individual needs. See a counselor for other options and to monitor your progress.
