Humanities Program, English Option, A.A.

This option is designed for transfer to a four-year college with a major in writing and/or literature. Students in this option take writing and courses concerned with specific areas of literature, coupled with liberal arts studies. Four-year English graduates enter widely diverse professions, among which may be teaching, copywriting, editing and publishing.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  • Identify and understand the characteristics of literary forms and genres
  • Utilize a college vocabulary to identify and interpret stylistic and technical features of literary texts
  • Think and write critically about various types of literary texts and support an analysis with specific textual evidence
  • Think and write critically about literary texts within a cultural or historical framework

Suggested Sequence - Humanities Program A.A. Degree English Option

The following sequence is an example of how this degree can be completed in two years. This sequence is based on completion of all Basic Skills requirements and prerequisites and presumes a Fall Term start date. An individual’s program may vary depending on transfer institution, career objectives, or individual needs. See your counselor for other options and to monitor your progress.

Semester 1 - Fall Term

Total credits: 15-16

Semester 2 - Spring Term

Total credits: 15-16

Semester 3 - Fall Term

Total credits: 16

Semester 4 - Spring Term

Total credits: 12-15

Sequence Notes:

(1) A minimum of 12 credits are required from the Mathematics , Sciences  or Technological Competency  knowledge areas.

(2) One course is required from the Cultural & Global Awareness  knowledge area. Students may meet the requirement while simultaneously fulfilling the General Education  requirement for another knowledge area.

Bachelor’s Degree Through Brookdale

This is a preferred Associate degree for students planning to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in English at Brookdale’s New Jersey Coastal Communiversity.
